It is November 11, 1988, when Detective John Cabrera and his team pay a visit to the once regal but past its prime Victorian home located on F Street in Sacramento, California. The detectives are conducting a wellness check on 51-year-old Alvaro "Bert" Montoya. Bert, a tenant at the home, has an intellectual disability. His social worker had phoned the police, worried that he was missing since she had not heard from him. They knock on the door and are greeted by a landlady of the home, an older woman. Det. Caberea asked her if they could look around the place, and she agreed and told them to go ahead. “Dig in my yard. I don’t know what’s out there.” She knew exactly what, or shall I say, who was in her yard.
